Maintenance method of solid carbide milling cutter
 Jan 19, 2022|View:568

A cutter made of a hard alloy is called a solid carbide milling cutter. Hard alloys are Powder metallurgy products made by sintering hard, high hardness, refractory metals in a vacuum or hydrogen reduction furnace with carbide micron-sized powder as the main component and cobalt or nickel as the binder.

When the solid carbide milling cutter axis line overlaps or approaches the edge line of the workpiece, the operator should perform the following equipment maintenance:

1. Check the power and stiffness of the machine to ensure that the required solid carbide milling cutterdiameter can be used on the machine.

2. The overhang of the cutter on the spindle should be as short as possible to reduce the impact load caused by the axis and workpiece position of the solid carbide milling cutter.

3. Use the correct solid carbide milling cutter pitch suitable for the process to ensure that not too many blades are engaged with the workpiece at the same time and cause vibration while cutting when milling a narrow workpiece or milling cavity to ensure that there is enough blade and workpiece meshing.

4. Ensure that the feed per blade is used so that correct cutting results can be achieved when the chips are thick enough to reduce tool wear. A positive rake groove indexable blade is used to achieve a smooth cutting effect and minimum power.

5. Choose solid carbide milling cutter diameter for workpiece width.

6. Choose the right main deflection angle.

7. Use cutting fluids only when necessary.
